Family poking out from tree for fun photo during family portrait session

FAQ

General

My primary service areas are the Greater Capital Region and Champlain Valley as I spend time between Queensbury, NY and Plattsburgh, NY. As an avid outdoorsman, I am often in the Adirondacks and I am open to traveling within the park for engagements, elopements, and adventure-based shoots.

There’s something magical about natural light and earthy tones that I lean into in my creative style. As such my work requires an outdoor session.

Yes. A $50 deposit is required for all sessions. This ensures that you are committed to the session and allows me to reserve that time for you. This payment is deducted from the cost of the session, with the remaining balance due the day of the shoot. Should you have to cancel this deposit will not be refunded. There are a few exceptions to the rule:

  • If the weather turns out to be formidable, the retainer will be held, but you will have the option to reschedule. Should you decide you no longer wish to have a session the deposit will be refunded.
  • A significant life event occurs. In the event of a disruption to your health or family, I will refund you promptly.

Weather can be hard to predict, but waiting on the forecast leaves too short of notice. For most bookings, I will need at least two weeks’ notice to fit you in, though there are cases where I can make an exception. On a similar note, if I don’t have availability when you do, I can keep your name on a list, and should a spot open up, I can give you a call. If you have a special date in mind, or are planning to book a proposal or destination shoot, it’s best to book a month or more in advance.

Though the angst around a cranky, or fidgety child is common, so is capturing beautiful candid moments between those temper tantrums, or spontaneous sprints. The key to wonderful photos is patience. I plan enough time in shoots to offer breaks when children need it. You can rest assured that by the end of the session, we will have some keepers.

Absolutely! Pets are family too!

Yes, I take on min sessions upon request and availability. If you would like to discuss a mini-session, please reach out to me.

Photo Delivery

Digital images will be delivered to a private online gallery within 2 weeks of your photoshoot. Within a day of selecting, a second gallery will be provided where you can download and share images. If your package includes the entire gallery, or you opt to purchase the entire collection, you can download everything in the delivered gallery.

Built into your online gallery is the option to buy prints from a high-quality print shop. This includes wall art, framed prints, cards, albums, and books.

The amount of photos you receive largely depends on the length and type of session. Generally, for an hour session, this will be at least 30 images for a family session or 50 images for couples/engagement.

All images in your final gallery can be downloaded, shared, printed, and used freely for personal use. As the artist, I retain the copyright of the image and I can use it in the promotion of my business. You will not have the right to modify my photos through the use of filters, and further photo editing besides cropping. If you wish to use any of your photos for commercial purposes, you will need to get in touch with me for a release, which I will be happy to provide, so long as there is not a conflict of interest or belief.

About Me

I am a family and couple photographer. I specialize in family portraits, engagement, proposal, and adventure photography.

Sometimes a picture really does tell 1000 words and I urge you to view my galleries to get a better sense of my style. However, since you’re twisting my elbow, I would describe my work as grounded in natural interaction, and candid moments or what we can call documentary-lifestyle. My images showcase beautiful connections in natural spaces.

I use the Nikon Z6II and an array of Nikon glass to cover every space and story.

Preparing for A Portrait Session

On a sunny day, the best light for photos comes an hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset. That being said, I can work around your schedule. The harshest time for photos is the middle of the day. Shaded shoots would work, but otherwise, sessions between 12-3 pm should be avoided. Cloudy days offer more flexibility with even lighting all day.

When picking out an outfit think about:

  1. What style best reflects you?
  2. What will everyone else be wearing? Avoid matching outfits unless it is a styled shoot and try to coordinate a flattering color palette.
  3. Solid colors. Avoid graphics, text, and logos. Flannel and other patterned outfits can be worn but must be coordinated when part of a group.

I have many beautiful spots in mind for a variety of locations and preferences. As part of your pre-session questionnaire, I will ask you about the type of shoot you are looking for (Wooded, lakeside, urban, etc). I will also give you the opportunity to list some places that are special to you or spots you have seen that you would like to use as the backdrop for your session.

The session length is set when you book. Most sessions run one to two hours, but I offer custom quotes for those who desire extended sessions.
